Tiškevičiai is a family of noblemen of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania of Ruthenian origin.

The family gained the greatest political power in the 17th century and its wealth in the 19th century, when it became the richest Lithuanian landowners.

The coat of arms of the Tiškevičius family Leliva, and the motto of the tribe “Deligas quem diligas!” (“Choose what you love!”)

The representative palace of Tiškevičius in Palanga was built in 1897. The author of the project is German architect Franc Swechten who lived in Berlin. This two-story brick building was built by Count Feliksas Tiškevičius for permanent residence in Palanga. It is a neoclassical palace with Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism features and composition elements. The building has a regular configuration with a curved facade with a semicircular terrace. It is climbed by a staircase decorated with a lion sculpture and vases made in Paris. On the south side of the facade there is a portico with columns and a terrace with a balustrade. From this side you enter the rosary. Connected to the west side of the palace’s facade is an octagonal chapel with Neo-Renaissance features and a dome shaped roof. The facades of the palace are two-stage, windows and portals are decorated with order elements.

During the war and post-war the building was significantly damaged. The palace was restored in 1957 by the architect Alfred Brusock. After that a creative house of the Lithuanian Artists’ Union was operating here for several years. The artists not only created and organized exhibitions of their works in this palace, but also rested.

In August of 1963 the branch of the Lithuanian Art Museum – the Amber Museum – has been opened in Tiškevičius Palace and is still operating there.

Founded in 1897, the palace park was initiated by Felix Tishkevich, led by French architect Eduard Fransua André and Belgian dendrologist Beisen de Coulon. Andrė and her son Rene Eduard spent three summers working in Palanga to create the park. About 500 trees and shrubs from Berlin, Königsberg and other botanical gardens were planted. The park is also called Birutė.

The park is landscaped, there is a fountain, flower beds, pink. Total area about 100 ha. The park has 7 sculptures, decorative lighting. The park is maintained by Palanga municipality.
